60's

1966 Started trading

Originally named Tracey Engineering as a joint venture between Gerry Spencer and Colin French who were both ex-Unbrako employees. The business concentrated mainly on machining. The business operated from its premises in Lythalls Lane, Coventry.

1967/1968

Gerry working on the hot forge section in Unbrako. Gerry designed and converted a Taylor & Challens 100T press to multiblow.

70's

1971

The business moved to Endermere Road, Coventry.

1974

Narendra Patel starting his employment with the company and is still employed today.

1975

Trevor Spencer, Gerry's Son, started work.

1979

Tracey Engineering was dissolved and Gerry and Colin went their separate ways. Colin formed Lockwell Fasteners and Gerry formed GW Spencer Engineering employing 5 people.

80's

1981

GW Spencer Engineering moved to Hawkesbury Lock Industrial Centre.

90's

1994

Gerry Spencer retired and sold the company to AB Engineering and was subsequently renamed Special Bolt.

1999

Special Bolt was sold by AB Engineering to Tim Bayliss. Employing 9 people Special Bolt achieved ISO9000 certification in May 1999.

2000's

2000

Special Bolt moved from Unit 4 to Units 1 & 2 Hawkesbury Lock.

2003

Special Bolt acquired a number manufacturing machines from SPS - Unbrako during their restructure and subsequent closure of their Coventry operation. As a product of this acquisition Special Bolt expanded into Unit 3 employing 4 of the staff from SPS - Unbrako.

2008

Due to expanding products and sales we expanded further into Unit 4 Hawkesbury Lock Ind Centre.
